Rumford fireplaces were developed in the
late 1700's because other fireplaces were
very smoky and grossly inefficient.
There were 3 main changes that were
made to improve them.
1) Make the firebox taller.
2) Widen the angle of the walls to radiate
more heat into the room.
3) Streamline the throat to eliminate
turbulence
What Count Rumford developed was the
cleanest burning, most efficient, fireplace in
the world. It remains so even today.
Unfortunately most fireplaces in the USA
are NOT Rumfords.

Highlights Rumford Fireplaces - Rumford panelized herringbone fireboxes make for the finest & most energy efficient fireplaces. Rumford Throats- We manufacture our own throats from industrial refractory products. A block shelf built into the front of the throat allows for immediate closing of the rough opening with block, without forms or supports. They are designed to withstand over 2600 degrees.
